1080i

1080i is the name of a resolution that is used for High Definition videos. Each image consists of 1080 lines. "i" stands for "interlaced". A video recorded using the interlaced procedure uses interlaced scanning to build up individual pictures out of two fields.

1080p

1080p is the abbreviation for the progressive display of videos with 1080 image lines. It is used for High Definition videos. A video recorded using the progressive procedure builds up individual pictures line by line.

16:9

The aspect ratio 16:9 gives the relationship between the picture width and picture height. In the case of 16:9 films, the picture width is 1.78 times longer than the picture height. HD videos are recorded in 16:9 format.
