Toshiba STOR.E TV+ - a true media hub for home networks

Neuss, Germany, 2nd September 2010 – Toshiba Europe GmbH today announced its new HD multimedia storage drive, the STOR.E TV+. It stores multimedia content up to 2 Terabytes1. and streams it to connected devices but can also eliminate most compatibility issues that occur when users try to connect older and advanced multimedia equipment or want to play legacy content. The STOR.E TV+ will be available during the third quarter of 2010 throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Support of many file formats and codecs

"Today an external multimedia hard disk drive is capable of acting as much more than simply a backup, storage or controller device for digital content. It is also able to serve as a media hub for the home that translates codecs and thus overcomes incompatibilities", says Marco Perino, General Manager Digital Life Products and Services.  "This truly adds value as it allows to view footage captured in a format, that isn't supported by a TV set, without need of tedious transformations on a PC." STOR.E TV+ supports a broad selection of audio, video and photo files ranging from previous uses formats to state-of-the art standards and also comes with various interfaces.

Connecting yesterday's and today's multimedia devices

For streaming high-definition videos in full 1080p to a TV screen, the STOR.E TV+ features an HDMI interface, a standardised interface that now is widely embedded in TV sets such as the latest Toshiba REGZA TV models. On the other side the STOR.E TV+ can connect to e.g. TV sets that don't feature state-of-the-art interfaces like USB but only have RCA input. 

Connecting to the home network

Toshiba is also launching a version of STOR.E TV+ that is Wi-Fi ready2. An optional Wi-Fi USB dongle that can be plugged in one of the two USB interfaces enables integration of STOR.E TV+ to a wireless home network. Furthermore the STOR.E TV+ offers a card reader that is compatible with SDHC memory cards with a capacity up to 64 GB.
